Bes

The dwarf god with a beard, lion mane and monstrous face, his tongue pressed between his teeth if laughing or frightening evil spirits. He wore a lion skin robe and plume of feathers on his head, indicative of his African origin. A companion of the goddess Hathor in Dendra, Bes was fond of dancing music and jubilation. Bes means "Fire" perhaps a reference to his lions mane and tail, sharing the lions solar characteristics.
